🌿Essential Oil Quality is the Heart of Aromatherapy❤️Most essential oils are extracted for the benefit of scent alone, not for therapeutic use. In order to create a therapeutic-quality essential oil a plant's constituents, of which there are sometimes hundreds, must be present and in tact. This is not as simple as it sounds since each stage in production needs to be carefully considered.

Excerpt from Essential Oils for Maternal Wellness
There is a common belief among Herbalists that true knowledge about plant medicine comes from many sources. One of the best tools for understanding this principle comes from the Native-American Lakota philosophy of “Four Directions”. Each of the Four Directions represents a different way of understanding the world around us.
The energy from the East, for instance, symbolizes new ideas and information. In natural medicine, this direction represents the knowledge gained about plants through evidence-based research and science. Essential Oil research is more accessible now than ever before and has risen exponentially since the late 1990s. The energy from the South represents experience — the personal experience gained from using Essential Oils on oneself contributes to this way of understanding. Learning through one’s own body is a very personal and deep way of knowing; in herbalism this method of learning is called “embodied herbalism”.
From the West is received the energy of instinct and intuition. Instinct is innate knowing based on external stimuli, while intuition is the understanding of something without conscious reasoning. Intuition is developed through practice and self-awareness; in the study of medicinal plants, these energies include direct knowledge received from the plant through mindfulness and meditation. Understanding from the North signifies wisdom and tradition. With a 5,000 year old history, Essential Oils have earned their place as one of the most potent and effective forms of traditional medicine.
When information from each of these four directions become balanced, the highest form of understanding occurs. For example, many traditional uses for plants that were derived from intuition and tested by personal experience have now been verified by research. Therefore, there is no one way of receiving knowledge that is more important than another.
The guidelines in this book for using Essential Oils during maternity were derived from the Four Directions. I drew from evidence-based research and case studies; knowledge gained from personal and clinical experience; a direct and intuitive relationship with the plants and essential oils; and more than 25-years of traditional herbal studies spanning over several countries and cultures.
There are no recommendations made in this book that have been associated with any risk of harm. It is a story and a guidebook based on all I have learned about Essential Oils since my three pregnancies and how the challenges of my own experiences have directed me towards this path of information-sharing with others. There are no regrets within these pages. There are only hindsight, reminiscence and a continuing passion to help to better the lives of women during their childbearing years.
